Book Excerpt
Campers yelped when they saw her skinny frame, no leash, and no owner, and that frightened Murphy even more. Long ago were the days she got a smile, a friendly tousle, or a kiss between her eyes. The people at the campsites all used a tone of voice that made Murphy nervous. A few even mentioned the word "coyote" when they saw her and either yelled, waving their arms above their head to scare her off (which worked), or else they grabbed their gear and ran from her in the other direction. It had been so long since she heard a kind or friendly voice, Murphy had forgotten.
